Post Summer Hair Repair Clinic

In the summertime, our hair can be damaged by the sun and sea as well as the all-year round causes such as heat styling and friction. All these actions and factors damage and break protein , which leads to the tell tale signs of split ends and hair prone to breakage, dryness and dullness and unmanageable locks - flyaway, frizziness and tangled.
And whilst we may be inclined to automatically reach for the most expensive hair care products out there, many of them are laden with chemicals that simply are of no benefit to our hair, and may even have a negative effect on our hair.
The main offending ingredients in hair care products to watch out for is sodium lauryl or laureth sulphate. This chemical is a harsh detergent and known irritant to skin and eyes. It may hamper healthy hair growth and has also been shown to cause cataracts via absorption through the skin – even with no contact of the actual eyes. Propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol and two more ingredients to watch out for, both of which cause premature ageing of the skin. The latter also coats the skin and hair, and strips the hair of its natural oils and the scalp of its natural sebum.
Unhealthy hair on the outside may be down to a lack of Essential Fatty Acids in the diet. These help maintain moisture in both the hair and the skin. So ensure you eat plenty of oily fish. Post summer, people often shed a lot of hair, but excess hair loss can be caused by a lack of folic acid, B Vitamins and Essential Fatty Acids.
You may also wish to consider the following supplements:
Diatomaceous Earth – this mineral is 89% silica, which is essential for healthy skin, hair and nails. Hair is around 90% silica, and if we are deficient in silica the collagen in our skin breaks down more quickly, causing dullness and tired looking skin.
MSM, or Methylsulfonylmethane, keeps hair glossy and skin tone even, smooth and youthful. Sulphur is also essential for cell regeneration and renewal.
